Our Origins
The township of Woombye was established in 1868 as a Cobb and Co staging depot halfway between Gympie and Brisbane. The local area has a proud farming pedigree and Woombye’s quaint high street is only a few minutes away offering a country bakery, butcher, supermarket and plenty of gift, café and dining options.
The Pitcher family have lived in Woombye for four generations and have strong connections to the local community. After purchasing this neglected former cane farm 13 years ago and returning its rolling pastures, Andrew and Jo were keen to offer a more relaxed, spacious alternative to coastal holiday apartments where guests are free to roam and explore. To date 2,000 natives have been planted with plans to establish other local crops including pineapple, coffee, bananas and macadamias for which the area was once famous.
Use our location as a base to explore everything
the Sunshine Coast has to offer, or just rest and recharge.
We look forward to welcoming you to Sixty6 Acres – Andrew & Jo
The Stables
Guests are welcome to interact with our resident furry friends – miniature belted galloway steers: Bruce, Barney, Hank and Humphrey; miniature English donkeys: Duke and Daisy; miniature horses: Harry and Hugo and miniature babydoll southdown sheep: John Lennon, Ringo and Shaun the Sheep (naturally). We also have six horses agisted in the paddock near the lake who will canter over for pats, carrots and apples.
When available, guests are welcome to help themselves to farm fresh eggs from the girls in our custom-built “Chicken Caravan”. We have Isa Browns, Silkies, a silver laced Wyandotte and a Barnevelder – all named after famous Australian women.
The Lake
Our farm lake is fed by natural springs from the surrounding hillside with overflow that feeds into Paynters Creek on the northern boundary. The lake assists in flood mitigation and irrigation and is home to wild local ducks, plovers, herons and egrets. Guests are welcome to use the jumping platform, and kayaks and SUPs are provided for a peaceful paddle or just relax and drift in an inflatable tube. Life jackets are on hand for those not confident in the water.
Pitch & Putt
There’s nothing like a bit of practice to keep your eye in – even when you’re on a farm. Our two country golf holes have been designed to get you out enjoying the farm fresh air and green vistas. This is not designed as a championship golf course, but rather a great place on the top of the hill to have a “hit and giggle” or work on your short game with the kookaburras. We think it’s perfect spot for sundowners before you head down to heat up the BBQ. Clubs and balls are provided for guests.
Our boys LOVED every second they spent at Sixty6 Acres. Carter made us stop in (at the Give and Take stand) on our way home to check in all the baskets. Thank you again Andrew and Jo – you’re doing an amazing job out there sharing your passion and vision.
What a perfect piece of paradise… thoroughly enjoyed our getaway. It was great to slow down, switch off, relax and enjoy the country air. The accomodation in ‘ The Quarters’ was very comfortable, has everything you need for your stay. Kitchen fully equipped to make some home cooked meals or is close enough to visit some quaint little towns with some fantastic options to eat out. We absolutely loved all the animals – they made our stay even more amazing.
